The First Journal

The City of New York or New York City which can be briefly called NYC or New York belongs to New York State of The United States of America.

New York is founded in 1624 and it contains a large number of emigrates from more than 180 countries. There are above 1million blacks in the Harlem block, 150 thousand Chinese in Chinatown and a lot of Italians and Jews.

We visited the Statue of Liberty and the guide told us the story of New York. In 1602, Hollanders came to the North America to look for a new land. In1609, they arrived New York Bay and took lots of things which are really cheap now back to the Netherlands. Many Holland merchants raised great interests in the rich land and moved there. They named it “New Nederland”. In 1626, the West Indian company of Holland traded with the Indians there, and got the ownership of the Manhattan Island. From then on, about 300 Hollanders built their homes in this place which they called “New Amsterdam”. In 1664, the English beat the Hollanders down, took the territory of “New Amsterdam”and renamed it “New York”because of the Duke of York.

Today, not only did we visit the statue of liberty but also we learned how to write a terrific personal statement. First of all, writing a personal statement is the most proper time to recall what I have done, what it taught and how it affected my future. Secondly, the opening of a perfect personal statement is really significant. You need to capture the reader ro keep reading your essay and have interests knowing the real you in life instead of the stuff you have written on your application. More impotantly, everything must be real because you are not writing a novel to others. The real emotion shows the real you. Maybe you show you are a little shy girl but it is better than telling a lie because this is the real you. After discussing this, we talked about the survey which we will do tomorrow to ask NYU students some questions in the Washington Square Park. We prepare for this survey because it is beneficial for us to learn more deeply about the campus life. A little scared but excited, too!

The time flies, our fascinating ACE life still keeps running!
